Mattias Bjärnemalm – Secretary General

Mattias Bjärnemalm has been active in the political pirate movement since its early days in Sweden. Joining the Swedish pirate party shortly after the party was founded in 2006, he has served the party in a multitude of different roles. This includes serving as the party organizer in the management team, as a regional leader, board member, chair of the nomination committee and deputy party leader. He was also the founder and first Secretary General of the Young Pirates of Sweden, serving in that role for the first three years of the its existence.
He has been involved in the European level of pirate affairs for most of his time in the movement, and he was instrumental in the creation of the European Pirates as well as the Young Pirates of Europe.

He has a background in political science, and worked as the head of Office for Amelia Andersdotter and Felix Reda in the European Parliament. After that he worked as a Digital Policy advisor, and later Network Officer, For the pirates delegation within the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament. As Network officer he secured the relationship agreement between the Pirates and the Greens, regulating the presence of the Pirates in the Group.

He started the role as the first Secretary General of the European Pirates in June 2025.

Michaela Moricová – Deputy Secretary General

Michaela is a Member of Parliament from the Czech Republic, focusing on digital policy, civil liberties, and the modernization of the state. Her work centers on protecting fundamental freedoms in the digital age, promoting transparent governance, and ensuring that innovation serves people, not the other way around. She also focuses on animal protection and advocates for more humane and responsible public policies.

Michaela holds a Master’s degree in English Philology and previously worked as a fundraiser for the Czech Pirate Party. She has been actively involved in political campaigning in the Moravian-Silesian Region, where she ran as the second candidate on the list and was elected to Parliament through preferential votes.

She was born on September 19, 1994, in Frýdek-Místek, near Ostrava. Alongside her political work, she is also engaged in horse racing as an expert and is active as a writer.

Bart Overkamp – Team Leader Outreach ➟ Team

Bart Overkamp has been active online as a persona since 2020, publishing independent writing under his own name. He became a producer of videos in 2021 and is a storyteller (on stage) since 2022.
Previous professional experience includes the formation of an NGO focused on workplace opportunities and being part of the Humanistic Collective Utrecht i.o. board.

Deepika Obulasetty – Team Leader Finance ➟ Team

Deepika Obulasetty is a procurement and supply chain professional with more than 10 years of international experience across Europe and Asia. Originally from India and now based in Belgium, she has built her career across procurement, supply chain operations, co-pack management, and business process improvement in international organisations and multinational environments.

Her professional experience spans procurement, supplier management, logistics, supply chain coordination, and financial operations. She has worked closely with suppliers, co-packers, and cross-functional teams across Europe, developing strong expertise in contract management, purchase-to-pay processes, cost analysis, stakeholder coordination, and operational planning.

Most recently, Deepika worked at Unilever as an Assistant Co-Pack Manager, where she supported co-pack operations across Europe, managed supplier contracts, coordinated procurement activities, and worked on invoicing, purchase orders, cost cards, and audit-related activities. She also contributed to process improvement and digital transformation initiatives, including migrating legacy Excel-based processes into Anaplan and using systems such as SAP, Ivalua, MyBuy, NetSuite, and Odoo.

Throughout her career, Deepika has developed a strong understanding of supply chain processes, procurement operations, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. She enjoys working in multicultural environments and bringing structure, efficiency, and practical solutions to complex operational challenges.

Deepika holds a master’s degree in Commerce. She is fluent in English, Hindi, and Telugu, and is currently learning Dutch and French. Based in Belgium, she is passionate about continuous learning, professional development, and building strong international networks.

David Cvetko – Team Leader IT ➟ Team

David Cvetko  is from Austria and has been working in software for over a decade in roles ranging from engineer and project manager to team lead and entrepreneur. He has worked in a safety-critical industry, co-founded a blockchain startup in Korea, and is now working in the European cloud sector, helping to build a more sovereign digital Europe.

Alongside his professional work, David has long been engaged in self-hosting open-source IT. He is also passionate about tackling society’s loneliness problem, having run a coliving community in Portugal and is now developing software tools to support communities and collaboration.

Federica – Team Leader HR ➟ Team

Federica is a welcome addition to the team responsible for welcome additions! An experienced EU program and operations professional with a history of working with European institutions, NGO’s and civil society. Experience in grant management, governance, and strategic partnerships, with a strong focus on compliance, transparency, and impact-driven delivery, makes her a great fit for the role. With a structured, yet human-centered approach and an analytical lens, with a strong sense of responsibility and talent. She is driven by values, purpose, and a long-term vision; that is why she has chosen European Pirates.

Nookala Kalpana – Team Leader Communications ➟ Team

Kalpana Vogeti is a published author and experienced content writer with a proven track record of delivering clear, engaging, and audience-focused communications. Having worked across diverse industries in fast-paced environments, she specializes in translating complex ideas into accessible content, strengthening communication channels, and managing public relations. As Press Officer and Deputy Team Lead for the Communications Team of European Pirates, she leverages her expertise to transform policy matters into compelling narratives and ensure the Pirates’ message reaches audiences with clarity and impact.

Thomas Kranz – Team Leader Policy ➟ Team

Thomas Kranz is a hacker, consultant, and activist with over 30 years of experience working in cybersecurity. From the Baltic states’ independence movement in the 80s and 90s, he has continued to be involved in work against the misuse of technology by government. He has taken part in consultations and given evidence to UK and EU government working groups and committees, on issues including digital ID, encryption, surveillance, and privacy.

He has presented talks at several hacker conferences on the misuse of AI and the need for more hackers to be involved in policy-making. He also regularly runs workshops on privacy technologies, defeating digital surveillance, and using open source alternatives to Big Tech services.
